About the Company
After 14 years of creating work that celebrates and champions LGBTQ+ and Hispanic identities, the company is formalizing its governance to support a new era of growth and international expansioAbout the Company
Founded in 2012 by choreographer Carlos Pons Guerra, DeNada is a critically acclaimed dance company known for its ‘dazzling imagery’ (FINANCIAL TIMES) and ‘dynamite dancing’ (THE GUARDIAN).
We create narrative dance productions that ‘combine outrageous showmanship with lacerating social comment’ (THE OBSEVER). We tour across the UK and internationally, and deliver an original and impactful community engagement programme.
The stories we dance (from sailors and showgirls to bulls blooming into flamenco cows) provide visibility and support for LGBTQ+ and Hispanic communities both on and off the stage. In doing so, we aim to create a world where dance celebrates the full diversity of human experience.
Our work combines entertainment with purpose: using dance to celebrate diversity, challenge convention, and spark vital conversations about identity, culture, and belonging.
The Role
As our first Chair, you will help us form, and lead, our first Board of Trustees, working closely with the Artistic Director and Producer to ensure the company remains artistically ambitious, organisationally resilient, and delivers its programmes with excellence.
We are looking for an individual who:
Shares our commitment to cultural advocacy and LGBTQ+ visibility.
Can provide strategic leadership during a period of organizational change.
Will support us in the development of our new Board.
We welcome first-time Chairs and provide full training as necessary.
You may have experience as a Chair or Trustee of a charity, company limited by guarantee, or similar organisation such as a School Governor. We are also interested in the following:
Finance, Legal, Fundraising and development, Marketing
Communications or Audience Development
Education, Community or participation work
Equality, Diversity and inclusion
Digital, AI, Data or creative technology
Human Resources, Safeguarding
We would love to hear from you if you have a strong commitment to supporting the LGBTQ+ community, and/or feel passionate about Hispanic/Latinx culture. You do not have to identify with either group: we welcome allies, friends, and people with a will to learn and share. Diversity is the core value of DeNada, and we look forward to the new perspectives, ideas and experiences you would bring as our Chair. If you have a love of dance, culture and community engagement, but little experience of them, don't hesitate and please get in touch. We will arrange training as required.
