Owen Thorne

Owen Thorne was born in New Orleans, Louisiana and studied ballet at The School of Nashville Ballet, Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet, and as a trainee with San Francisco Ballet. He began his professional career with Houston Ballet and in 2009, he joined Ashley Page's Scottish Ballet before becoming a freelance artist in 2015. Thorne has performed as a principal guest artist with Joburg Ballet in South Africa in 2016, and as a freelance artist with the Royal Opera, DeNada Dance, Nashville Ballet, Boca Ballet Theatre, The Peter Schaufuss Company, and Antonia Franceschi Dance. His extensive repertory includes works by renowned choreographers such as Frederick Ashton, George Balanchine, Christopher Bruce, Jorma Elo, William Forsythe, Jiří Kylián, Kenneth MacMillian, Stephen Page, Yuri Possokhov, Pastor, Glen Tetley, Hans van Manen, Paul Vasterling, and Christopher Wheeldon.

Thorne has performed the title role of James in Matthew Bourne's Highland Fling at the Mariinsky Theatre in Saint Petersburg, Russia, Stanley Kowalski in Annabelle Lopez Ochoa's A Streetcar Named Desire, the White Swan Pas de Deux at The International Ballet Stars Gala in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and Brighella in Glen Tetley's Pierrot Lunaire at the Chekhov Festival in Moscow, Russia. Most recently, he had the opportunity to perform with Nashville Ballet at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.

When he’s not in the studio, Thorne is a passionate advocate for creating community and engagement through dance. He has taught workshops for vulnerable youth across Scotland and volunteered with Dance for Parkinson's and Parkinson's UK.

Owen joined DeNada for multiple research processes and the creation of Mariposa: a Queer Tragedy Inspired by Puccini’s Madame Butterfly. With Nashville Ballet, he has collaborated with Carlos Pons Guerra creating leading roles in Together Clinging and Private Balls..
