Azzurra Ardovini

Azurra Ardovini (Italy) began her training in ballet and contemporary dance in Florence, before moving to the UK to continue her training at London Contemporary Dance School (LCDS). As a professional performer, she has worked with Rosemary Lee, Jonathan Lunn, Kim Brandstrup, Hélène Blackburn, Freddie Opoku-Addaie, Jorge Crecis, ENO, ROH, James Cousins, Vincent Dance Theatre, Akram Kahn, for the opening ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics and many others. Azurra danced with Henri Oguike Dance Company between 2008-9, and later in 2009 joined Phoenix Dance Theatre, where she dance until the end of the 2013 season. During her time there she worked with many choreographers, including Richard Alston, Lost Dog, Douglas Thorpe, Aletta Collins, whilst she continued pursuing her choreographic interests. Azzurra teaches extensively throughout England both professionally and to youth groups. She gained an MA with Distinction in Contemporary Dance from LCDS and was nominated for Outstanding Female Performer (Contemporary) at the 2012 National Critics' Circle Awards. Azzurra joined DeNada for its Ham and Passion 2015/16 tour, performing the roles of the Young Man in Young Man! and Armando/Aurora in O Maria

 

Azzurra has also worked as rehearsal director for TORO: Beauty and the Bull and Mariposa: a Queer Tragedy Inspired by Puccini’s Madame Butterfly.
